Donald Hills (Finance & Operations) and Mark Hills (Sales & Marketing) founded 49th Street Cigars in 2020 after two decades of increased fascination and indulgence with all things cigars. The name of the company pays homage to their childhood home on 49th Street in Richmond, CA.

The Green Label is our Habano wrapped cigar.

The wrapper hails from Cuba and was created to resist disease that wiped out the Corojo leaf in the late 1990s. The Habano seeds made their way to different tobacco growing regions outside of Cuba and are now grown very successfully, especially in Ecuador and Nicaragua.

We like the Habano wrapper’s flavor. It is spicy, rich and the color is generally dark. Chocolate is commonly tasted in Habano wrappers. And the Habano cigar wrapper is going on many of your favorite cigars.

The Red Label is our Maduro wrapped cigar.

Maduro is Spanish for “mature” or “ripe.”Once upon a time, Maduro wrappers were harvested exclusively from the top of the tobacco plant – the area guaranteed to get dark due to its increased exposure to the sun. The Maduro withstands excessive fermentation temperatures to convert starches in the tobacco into sugars, which gives Maduro wrappers their dark and oily signature color and their molasses, dark chocolate favor hints. Maduros can range from dark brown to nearly jet black.
